The program

Following the great success of the International English Programs, The University of Toronto now invites high school students to participate in its first-ever International Summer Theatre Program. Designed to help aspiring young artists explore their potential in the expressive arts, this intensive arts immersion program offers students the exciting opportunity to work with some of Canada’s finest creative talents and to enhance their understanding of the global arts landscape through direct exposure to Toronto’s rich, multicultural, and thriving arts scene.

Students will experience daily professional-level workshops in the dramatic arts, where they will be challenged to develop their own unique artistic voices and cultivate self-discipline as they learn how to work cooperatively with others to achieve team goals. The program’s small class sizes will ensure that students are given the chance to work closely with workshop instructors to receive personalized attention and get feedback on individual creative projects.

Outside daytime classes, students will be encouraged to take part in the city’s diverse, world-class cultural activities. Extracurricular group outings to professional theatre productions and concerts will be regularly organized for students and are a crucial feature of the program.

Beyond learning key concepts in the performing arts, students will learn invaluable social, leadership, and communication skills. The program includes daily two-hour English language classes with outstanding instructors. Being immersed in an English environment where students can continually practice their language skills will facilitate students’ linguistic abilities while helping them to build confidence.

Furthermore, the program will introduce youth to what is involved in becoming a student at The University of Toronto, one of North America’s most prestigious academic institutions. From living on campus in the beautiful dormitories at University College to experiencing the school’s reputably high standards in coursework, students will gain first-hand experience of life at The University of Toronto while making like-minded friends from other countries.
